What is Morality?

What is Morality?

Our country faces different kinds of problems, and one of them is crime. With the help of our president, the crime rates here in Philippines have decreased due to his strict policies and mercilessness against criminals. Though crime rates decreased, the rates of murder increased. This is alarming for us people because killing is not the key to stop anyone from doing bad. Plus, there was a news about the president's plan to bring back the death penalty. Where is the sense of being moral there?

My point there was about the moral actions people do nowadays. But what really morality is? Why is it important that we humans should have it? Morality is a system by which to determine one person wants to act. The actions and decisions of humans only are then distinuished whether it is good or bad through being moral. In philosophy or in any particular region, being moral is a principle code of conduct and is something that one believes that should be universal.

We people use the golden rules and it’s other types as guide for being moral. It is important that we people should be moral because it helps become a good citizen of our society. We become a good law-abiding person. And helps us interact with the people around us and build a good relationship with them because we know how to treat them nicely. And because it is how a decent person should act.

Look around you, do you think people still have the possibility to gain morality even without God? Obviously, Yes. Because being moral doesn’t depend on what religion you are in or how religious you are. With or without Him, morality exist within us, we just have to find it. Even Atheists still have moral because they are well-aware if did something wrong, and is able to idenfy if it is right or wrong, just like the religious people.

Obviously, the difference is that the religious people are depending on what the Bible says, they have their basis. While the Atheists believes in their morality inside them and thinks logically and values virtue ethics. We human beings, are capable of empathy, compassion, care, and moral and ethical judgments. That is why it does not depend on religion or anything, it just depends in humans holding it. Humans, religious or nonreligious, are moral in sense. In that sense, do you consider yourself a moral person?
